Berne R. Kent, age 81, of Wilson, died Saturday, August 1, 2009. He was born in Elgin, IL on June 13, 1928, the son of the late Norris and Pansy (Bolen) Kent. He was a 1951 graduate of SUNY College at Buffalo. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a former Art teacher, Guidance Counselor and Special Education Chairman at Wilson Central School for 35 years. He was active in the New York State Teachers Association, serving as delegate from Wilson. Northwestern Zone Credentials Chairman, New York State Credentials Chairman and First Vice President of the Northwestern Zone. He was Chairman of the Village of Wilson Planning Board and Zoning Board and former Village Trustee. Mr. Kent was a former trustee of the Wilson Historical Society, a past member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club, a former Education columnist for the Niagara Gazette, a member of the Wilson Central School Board of Education from 1992-1997. He was an avid bridge player. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy (Westover) Kent of Wilson; three children, Elaine (George) Elbel of Alvin, TX, Tracey Kent of Lewiston and Edward Kent of West Seneca. Also survived by four grandchildren, Ryan Burke, Evan Burke, Albert Whitehead and Cordelia Kent. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
