JOHN F. HANLEY, RETIRED ENGLISH TEACHER ; NOV. 11, 1929 -- MARCH 23, 2005

     John F. Hanley of Cheektowaga, a retired English teacher, died Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital after a short illness. He was 75.
     Born in Buffalo, Mr. Hanley, known to friends and family as Jack, moved to Cheektowaga in his teens and remained there the rest of his life.
     He received a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from Canisius College. He also served in the National Guard in the 1950s.
     Mr. Hanley taught English at Bishop Ryan High School and Cleveland Hill High School before moving to Wilson High School in 1959. He taught there until his retirement in 1978.
     A member of the New York State United Teachers and the New York State Teachers Association, he enjoyed visiting New York City, in particular to attend theatrical performances.
     He is survived by two brothers, Kenneth of Amherst and Gary of South Wales.
     A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, 4125 Union Road, Cheektowaga. Burial will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
